Many people today consider maps to be a practical thing, something that we occasionally look at when we are lost. But many centuries ago creating maps was an art. From the ancient maps of Babylon, Greece and Rome, China and India, to the age of great explorers, people have used maps as the indispensable tools to help them define the world, as well as navigate their way through it. In the past, maps were very valuable and they were treated in the same way as art. Many map makers and cartographers were true artists. They often decorated their maps with details such mythical gods or exotic animals.

Today many people are using antique world maps to decorate their homes. There are many options to choose from, such as original ancient maps, old map reproductions, old map prints and posters and wall tapestries.

Original ancient maps are definitely the most expensive option. These maps are available at specialized stores. Everything from world maps to the local maps is available. Many originals are quite rare, and therefore not cheap. Properly framed or mounted, these maps can definitely give a special charm to your home.

Other option, which is more popular, is using old map reproductions for decorating your home. Many famous ancient maps have been reproduced as prints and posters. You can find the exact replicas, as well as artwork that was inspired by the ancient maps.

Have you ever been at the clinic, waiting for your turn to see the doctor, and all you see on the walls around you are posters on cancer prevention, reminders for you to do your annual medical checkups, dealing with rheumatism in old age, diabetes… the list goes on. All around us, we’re flooded with uncomfortable images and messages that remind us that we really need to take good care of our health. Although these posters are there for a reason – to inform and educate, they certainly add an unwelcome addition because they inject an element of fear into all of us. Here we are, waiting to see the doctor, worried sick that our illness could get worse, and all we see in front of us are images and information about illnesses and disease. We really don’t need these at this time. Tell us these things when we’re well, not when we’re sick.

Having been a patient myself (and who hasn’t), the waiting area at the doctor’s office is quite a stressful place to be. As you’re waiting for your turn to see the doctor, your mind is full of apprehension and uncertainty as to what the diagnosis might be. The last thing you want is to be bombarded with images and media detailing out a plethora of possible ailments you could be diagnosed with. It just adds to the stress.

This simple yet beautiful vignette display will only takes minutes to arrange, and you will be able to personalize it by decorating with some of your child’s favorite Easter stuffed rabbit toys.  Of course make sure that they’re okay with them being outside temporarily.   It’s sure to send a message that Easter has arrived when your guests walk up to ring your door bell.

We used the following items:

2 patio chairs side by side (we used black rod iron chairs from a bistro table set)

Stuffed Rabbit Toys (we used our child’s Beatrix Potter’s Collection from the story of Peter Rabbit). 1 small decorative embroidered rabbit theme related pillow 1 small wooden basket (we used a white one but any color would do) 6 ceramic decorative colored eggs

Arrange the bistro chairs side by side. Next, arrange stuffed rabbit toys on top of chairs.  Fill basket with artificial eggs, we used ceramic one’s for this project.  A decorative bow could also be added to the basket handle. For a finishing touch arrange a small decorative theme related pillow on one of the chairs next to the rabbits. A pretty potted plant at the foot of the chairs or behind adds a touch of color and texture to your Easter decorative vignette display.

Note: An outdoor bench could be used in lieu of chairs for this project.  We also recommend a covered porch for this project to protect stuffed rabbit toys from poor weather conditions. However, if it happens to be a beautiful day, then an uncovered porch area would be fine.

With contemporary decorating simple and plain is the main theme you need to stick to, though accessories can be used to add a little character to the room. Everything from the flooring to the walls and accessories should be thought about in order to create the best results possible.

If you are looking to give your home a really stylish yet simple style then contemporary style decorating is definitely for you. Being a modern design it is quite popular these days and one of the reasons for that is because it is easy to maintain and it can suit your home no matter which size home you have.

Looking Into the Important Aspects of Contemporary Decorating

A big part of contemporary style decorating is the furniture. When choosing the right furniture for whichever room you are decorating, you will need to pick things which are simple and sleek. The best styles of furniture to go for are sleek linear styles and you should stay well clear of old fashioned and floral style fabrics.

How you decorate your windows also makes a big difference and so curtains and shutters need to be given some consideration. Whatever you choose again make sure that it is minimal in design. Generally wooden blinds tend to go quite well in a contemporary designed home so if you are stuck for ideas you could always stick with them.

Home decorating the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry-room all start with the appliances. However, with so many new, energy efficient, and ecologically friendly products coming out in the near future, one wonders if they shouldn’t take a look at some of the new designs and decorate and design these rooms to accommodate the new appliances.

Americans crave the security of round-the-clock comforts. They want convenience at a fingertip, just in case they are needed. The most ever-present example of American’s love affair with fingertip-gratification is the hot water heater.

Unlike valets who get intermittent curbside rests, water heaters just sit there, forever cooking gallons of hot water, ready at any time. After all, we never know when we might wake at 2am and decide that we want a shower, to do a load of laundry, and run the dishwasher.

It is time Americans embrace the new home ecotechnologies? Notorious for their thriftiness and love of high-tech gizmos, the Japanese have already discovered that going green is good for the environment and the pocket book.

Many Japanese families use “tankless” water heaters that hang on a wall and heat water when needed. There is no reservoir. The water is heated the moment the faucet turns on, and the heating stops when the faucet is turned off.

Further savings can be obtained by installing flow reducing faucets.

If you are thinking of decorating your home you may be wondering what kind of style to go for. Well, if you are looking for something a little different, why not opt for a Tuscan style theme?

Tuscan Style Decorating

When trying to think of Tuscan style decorating, the main thing to keep in mind is that Tuscan houses tend to follow a natural theme. Houses in Tuscan tend to have crumbling stone walls, marble flooring and wrought iron accessories. Everything about them looks natural and that in itself makes everything seem calm and peaceful.

Also, Tuscan is a colourful country and that reflects in the brightness of the homes. Now, that isn’t to say that you should rush out and buy bright red paint. You still have to keep the theme natural and even a bright white color can make the house look alive and bright. However, for best results it is always best to go for warm coffee colors or yellow. Try not to use a bright yellow but perhaps a more sedate yellow color. Any colors which make the house feel alive and which make it feel warm are definitely recommended.

How to Incorporate the Stone Look within the Home

Of course if you do not live in Tuscan you cannot really copy the crumbling stone walls which appear everywhere that you look. However, with Tuscan style decorating you can bring that stone look inside by doing a number of things.
